Red Miso / Animals As Leaders

NICOLS KADIMA | DIRECTIOR / MUSIC VIDEO

Animals As Leaders' "Red Miso" marked my introduction to progressive metal, and it was an impactful initiation. Over repeated listening sessions, the track gradually conjured an almost spiritual experience. The lyrical structure of "Red Miso" organically shapes a three-act saga. Remarkably, "Red Miso" has now surpassed 1.3 million views on YouTube. Rod Chong was Executive Director on this collab.

Visually, I approached Red Miso like a machine's fever dream about the future of humanity. I call the style digital surrealism.

Since Tosin, Javier, and Matt were initially in different cities at the project's inception, and soon to embark on tour, they used their mobile phones to  3D scan their heads. We then rigged and integrated their 3D avatars into the video. This strategic choice elevated the overall feel of digital surrealism. CG supervisor Mike Fabris ensured smooth workflow transitions between Polycam, Maya, and Blender. Tyler Dillman and Alex Kurina provided the vfx while I did the camera work. Small crew, big dreams.
